Aluminum is a highly adaptable material that can be found in a wide variety of products ranging from hardware to soda cans. There are many different ways to shape aluminum, but they all involve the use of a die or mold of some sort to accomplish the task. There are two primary types of aluminum production – drawn aluminium tubing and extruded aluminum. According to the product, the aluminum is first formed into a billet or a long tube, and then cut to the desired length using either of the methods described above.
Aluminum that has been extruded Rather than melting the aluminum, extruded aluminum is formed by forcing the metal through a die at high temperatures. The shape of the finished product is revealed on the other side of the process. Even though the hardening process can be carried out at room temperature, because it is time-consuming, most manufacturers use heated rooms to temper the aluminum more quickly. Aluminum tubing that has been extruded The extrusion process produces two types of structural tubing: round tubing and square tubing. In the first, the aluminum tube is split and then resealed using high-temperature, high-pressure, and metallurgical welds to create a watertight seal. The seam that is created during this process can sometimes be seen with the naked eye if done correctly. As a result, tubing constructed in this manner is not suitable for transporting gases or liquids under extreme pressure because the seam is at risk of splitting. In the second process, the tube is created by forcing a hollow billet through a die, similar to the first. Because there is no seam in this tube, it can be used to transport or store pressurized gases and liquids without risk of explosion. Aluminum that has been drawn Between extruded and drawn aluminum, the primary difference lies in how each is shaped by the die that shapes the aluminum. While extruded aluminum is pushed through a die to achieve the desired shape, drawn aluminum is pushed into a mold to achieve the desired shape. Drawing tubes are just as suitable for transporting gases or liquids under pressure as a seamless extruded tube in this application. |
