Hosting tournament

After having recruited enough warlocks with the beta decks in Kiruna throughout the years, we now feel like we have the number to host a small tournament. This will mainly be a private event, but in case anyone feels like making the long journey, let me know and I'll announce the date once it's been set!

Since none of us have ventured to the tournaments in the southern lands, we are somewhat in doubt about what format to use. We will not have enough warlocks (or decks) to host six tables. The intuitive solution would be to place warlocks around e.g. three tables, and have to two last standing qualify for the final table. However, there is a concern that this approach would alter the nature of the game too much, with a large incentive to gang up on whichever player is currently the lowest in health at the qualification tables. In a normal game, there is not really any incentive to do so until the health is low enough that you can get the kill and collect the bounty. Having someone killed before anyone else has lost even five health does not sound optimal to maximize the fun.

So, how do you recommend tournaments to be organized, based on the experiences you have collected?

Okey, I'll start this off by discussing the ideas we have come up with this far:

1. Play in predetermined pairs at the qualification tables. Whoever is last standing gets to bring his/her partner to the final, regardless of when that warlock was eliminated.
   
2. Play as normal, but set the following restrictions: make it illegal to target a warlock with less than 7 health as long as there is another warlock with more than 15 health remaining, and give the winner of the qualification match a bonus to bring to the final (extra health and/or cards).
   

In both cases the final is played as a normal match.

Alternative 1 has the drawback of requiring exactly 18 players to work, so it's probably not feasible, but could be a fun variation. More importantly, it would solve the problem caused by not playing for a single winner: the lack of incentive to attack anyone other than the weakest warlock. In this scenario two pairs teaming up to eliminate the third pair would still have to battle it out between themselves afterwards, which means that they would want to attack the other pair as soon as possible.

Alternative 2 would feel more artificial, but has the advantage of preventing the most boring scenario: five players teaming up to eliminate the sixth super early. The chance of bringing a bonus to the final could provide an incentive not to team up against the weakest warlock when there's three remaining players, since the two warlocks advancing to the final still would fight for the victory.
