extreme gaming 88 casino The world of video gaming can be a sexy and shady place. The average US gamer is 32 years old, which is a bit of a jump from the average age of gamers a decade ago. This means that the average gamer has been spending a bit more time at the keyboard than the ole boy in the front yard. That is not to say that gamers are only spending their downtime playing Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto. In fact, more than a third of the population is playing an online video game. While this may be a good thing for the armed forces, it is a bad thing for the family budget.
For those looking for a more in depth study, the National Product Development (NPD) group released a 2010 version of its Gamer Segmentation report. The NPD group based the report on the findings of a large online survey conducted in January. Interestingly, the NPD group managed to separate the gaming community into seven subgroups. Each of these groups is represented by a small sample size. Using data from each subgroup, the researchers were able to spit out a number of interesting statistics. It turns out that the "average" gamer is now playing more games than ever before. What's more, they're now spending more on gaming than ever before. The list of participants in the 2010 NPD Group study consisted of over 8,000 people, including a healthy mix of children and adults. It's estimated that the average gamer now clocks in at over 48.5 hours of play per week. Interestingly, the group found that this figure was on the rise, especially among the younger crowd. This is perhaps due to the growing popularity of XBox and Xbox One. The other notable trends in gaming include a surge in online multiplayer. Moreover, the NPD group noted that the average gamer's age has ticked up a notch. As the tally goes up, the NPD group found that the smallest number of gaming enthusiasts can be counted on one hand. Of course, the most notable statistic is that the average US gamer now spends more on video games than ever before. |
